Welcome to the memorial page for

Reynolds Winters Smith

January 11, 2018

Reynolds (Reyn) Winters Smith, 12/23/23 – 1/11/18, 94 years young, died peacefully at home last Thursday.  He was predeceased by his mother, Irene Smith Bunt; father, William H. Smith; and brothers, Earl L. Smith, O. Zane Smith, and David Lee Smith.  He is survived by his wife, Joan Smith; daughters, Karen Cofield, Cynsie (Gerry) Kraines, and Deb Bishop; grandchildren, Todd Ashford, Shana (Ken) Chaffer, Jason Cofield, and Zach Rothstein; great grandchildren, Olivia Ashford and Aidan Cole; nephews, George O’Connor and O. Zane Smith, Jr.; niece Julie Duntley Fitser; and stepsons, Keith Bub, Kurt Bub, Karl Bub, and Kevin Bub.  Reyn will be greatly missed by them all. A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, Reyn spent his career at Raymond Corporation in a variety of roles that paralleled his life.  His morning cup of coffee was everything to him, and he died within minutes of his last sip ever.  Reyn was an achiever, a gardener, a bluebird enthusiast and birdwatcher, a soup master, and a craftsman.  He sang about his day and what he was thinking and feeling in an Irish accent in spontaneous rhyme.  His intellectual curiosity was boundless.  Reyn valued God, his country, helping others, and was an exceptional neighbor—always volunteering and giving back.  A Christian Care Service driver in his 80s, he often drove those much younger than he. A celebration of Reyn’s life will be held on Saturday, January 20, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, Greene, NY.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Reyn’s memory to the Greene Emergency Squad, to the Hospice of Chenango County, NY, or to Smile Train. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
