L. Wesley Tallett Jr., 93, of Greene was delivered by the Lord to the big baseball diamond in the sky on May 9, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Lewis W. Tallett Sr. and Myra Brown Tallett; brother, Stanley Tallett; brother-in-law, Kevin Byrne; sister-in-law; Mary Ann Tallett; daughter, Diane Lee Miller; son, Daniel Wesley Tallett; and grandchildren, Leslie Ann and Aaron Kyle Miller. Wes is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Connie Tallett; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and John Symonds; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Steve Kanuk; daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and John "JB" Bilan; daughter and significant other, Dawn Tallett and Joel Stillson; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Dudley Tallett; sister, Carol Byrne and many nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins. Born in Smyrna, NY, Wes lived on the family farm and just once tried riding the bull! He graduated in 1948, class of six from Otselic Valley High School and attended CCBI for business in Syracuse, NY. He had an extensive work history at Gladding Fishing Line, Raymond Corporation, Scintilla/Bendix/Amphenol (30+ years); where his math skills as a pricing analyst served him well. Then after “retirement” he drove a bus for Greene for 22 years and loved “his kids”, well except that one kid who threatened to jump out the window! Wes also had a full year round extracurricular calendar. Filling his years with the Town team baseball for 25 years earning him the title, “Mr. Baseball”, playing softball at KAA and playing on the Senior Olympics team, bowling at the Greene Bowlodrome, golfing at the “Genny”, and snowmobiling all over God’s country. He belonged to Lake Ludlow and the Kattelville Athletic Association, loved going to the “office” and socializing with the guys! Wes was a volunteer firefighter for Greene and fought the fire in the 60s at the Sherwood Hotel which landed him in the Greene Hospital. He took annual trips to North Carolina to golf and to Black Lake to go fishing even though he did not like water! Wes earned trip money by collecting bottles– Wes the Can Man! Don’t forget the tabs of which he collected millions for the Oxford American legion. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church and was the “hugging” usher and kitchen clean up/garbage crew. He delivered Meals on Wheels which brought him joy as he wanted no one to go hungry. All this and father to six kids! 93 years of a life well lived - he will be missed! A funeral service will be held 11:00am Monday, May 13, 2024 at the Central Baptist Church of Greene, 37 S. Chenango St, Greene, NY 13778. Friends of the family may call from 10:00am until the time of service at the Central Baptist Church. Burial will immediately follow the service at Sylvan Lawn Cemetery in Greene. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Wes' name to the Central Baptist Church of Greene or the Greene Area Churches Food Pantry, 109 County Rd 2, Greene, NY 13778.
