Roland (Rollie) Alger, 61, of Oxford, NY, previously, of Greene, NY, a beacon of joy and inspiration, passed away on March 23,2026. Rolly was born on December 31, 1964. He was the son of the late Ruth (Sampson) and Irving Alger. Rolly’s life was a testament to the enduring power of positivity as he navigated his journey with a smile that could light up a room.
Rolly is survived by his loving siblings, Sherry (Roger) Karaim, Joanne Christensen, Dianne (Barry) Youngs and Keith “Kip” (Annemie) Davis, Jr. as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Rolly was welcomed into his heavenly home by his maternal and paternal grandparents, several cousins and many aunts, uncles and numerous friends and extended family.
After graduating from Greene Central School in 1978, Rolly, went to work at the workshop in Norwich, starting at the age of 25. His commitment to his work was matched only by his passion for all kinds of music and his love to dance and laugh.
Rolly's interests were as diverse as his personality. Despite living with Down's Syndrome, he never let it dampen his spirit. He especially liked country music, old and new. He could hear a few notes of a country song and be able to tell you the title and the artist. He also loved to watch car racing, and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt.
Rolly’s loyalty to football, especially the Dallas Cowboys was unwavering. He could always be seen eagerly cheering on his teams with an infectious smile.
Our family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You for his exceptional and compassionatecare to the staff at his care home, Albany Street, Oxford. Also, to the many families he enjoyed living with in the past.
Services will be held at a later date. Burial arrangements are being handled by Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St, Greene, NY 13778 with burial in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene, NY.
