Robert "Bob" O'Connor

Robert (Bob) O’Connor passed away on September 19, 2024 at the age of 96. Bob was a resident of Valley View Retirement Community in Belleville, PA. Bob was born in Oneonta, NY and graduated from Oneonta High School.  He then enlisted in the Navy where he served on the USS Kersarge. When Bob returned from the service he entered Broome Tech and majored in Electrical Engineering Technology.  After graduating Bob was employed by General Electric in Johnson City, NY for 36 years.  Bob was especially proud of the two patents he received for his work on flight control test equipment. As a member of the community in Greene, NY Bob was active with Cub Scouts, Zion Episcopal Church and the Echo Lake Association.  During his years in Pennsylvania Bob was active with the Elks, American Legion and delivering Meals on Wheels. Bob’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf, wine making, woodworking, spending time at the lake and motor homing around the country. Bob was predeceased by his parents, George and Martha (Salie) O’Connor and wife, Dorothy H. (Hanna) O’Connor. Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth F. (Fox) O’Connor; sister, Mary (O’Connor) Smith; son, Brian (Sheila); grandsons, Aaron (Barrett), Jared (Brittany) and great-grandson, Renan. A celebration of his life will be held at the Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene, NY on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 am. Friends of the family may call from 10:00am until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
