Reverend Dennis S. Boel, 77 of Binghamton passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Crowne Park Nursing Facility in Cortland. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Alice; sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Jennifer Boel of Weymouth, Massachusetts and Stephen and Amanda Boel of Greene; grandchildren, Alexander and Josiah Boel. He is predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Ken and Betty Masterman; his sister Bertha Musella; and his brother Leonard.
Born in Albany, NY, Dennis later attended Eastern Pilgrim College in Allentown, PA, where he met and married the love of his life, Alice Latshaw. After college, he attended seminary at Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, VA, while also taking courses at James Madison University. Upon receiving his MDiv, he served as associate pastor in Arlington, TX, at Arlington First Church of the Nazarene. After serving associate pastor roles in Lansdale, PA and Washington, DC, he served his final pastorate in Birdsboro, PA as senior pastor of Birdsboro First Church of the Nazarene for thirty-one years. He retired in June, 2009. He and his wife, Alice, relocated to Macungie, PA for ten years before moving to Binghamton, NY in June, 2019 to be with their grandsons. Dennis was a pastor not only to his church congregations, but also to those in the communities in which he lived. He served as chaplain to the Birdsboro Fire Department and as a member of the principal's advisory board for the high school that his sons attended. He will be remembered for his love for God, his love for the Gospel, and his love for people.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Tuesday at the First Church of Nazarene, 1282 Chenango Street, Binghamton, New York 13901. Friends of the family may call from 12:00pm until time of service at the church.
