Raymond W. Gates

Raymond W. Gates, 84, of Greene, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Mary Gates and sisters, Beverly Gates and Diane Sweet. Raymond is survived by his son, Scott Gates and partner Dotti Echols of Syracuse and his children and their partners, Alex Gates and Amy Duengfelder, and Adrienne and Bob Galasso; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Rachael Gates of KY; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Alden Melbourne and their son, Timothy of CA; brothers, Richard, Charles, and Robert Gates; and numerous nieces and nephews. Raymond enlisted in the US Navy after graduating from Binghamton North High School, and served on the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42). Following an honorable discharge, he married and moved to Greene, where he worked at Raymond Corporation for close to 40 years as an engineer. He was dedicated to his wife and family, and enjoyed reading, history, genealogy, travel, and birdwatching. Friends of the family may pay their respects 10:00AM Wednesday, September 1 at Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango Street, Greene, New York 13778 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00AM.
