Philip J. Hofmann, 84, of Smithville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on May 27, 2025. He was predeceased by his parents, George C. and Ida Hofmann; brother, George R. Hofmann; brother, Louie W. Hofmann; and sister, Ida Lou Hofmann. Phil is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sharon Hofmann; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Virginia Hofmann, Jr.; daughter, Heidi Hofmann; grandchildren, Jonathan P. Hofmann, Kelcie M. Hofmann, Joshua Hofmann and Johnathan Hofmann; great-grandchildren, Desarae Spicer, Shyanne Hofmann, Melanie Hofmann and Budyy Hofmann; sisters, Joan M. Whittinghill and Beth Short; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Phil was a longtime member of Lake Ludlow Association. He was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Smithville and was a former member of the Genegantslet Fire Department. He retired from Raymond Corporation after 38 years of service. He loved all of his animals and his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St, Greene, NY 13778. Friends of the family may call from 9:30am until the time of service at Root Funeral Home.
