Nelson J. Buchanan

Nelson J. Buchanan, 83, of Greene passed away peacefully on February 8, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Isabel Buchanan. Nelson is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 62 years, Margaret; son, James Buchanan of Johnson City; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Michelle Buchanan of Johnson City; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and David Gridley of Chenango Forks; grandchildren, Lauren (Jacob) Gagnon, Daniel (Ashley) Gridley, Benjamin Buchanan and Isabella Buchanan; great-granddaughter, Eliana and several nieces and nephews. Nels was born in Binghamton on December 6, 1939 and was a Binghamton North High, Broome Tech, and Empire State college graduate. He worked for GE for 25 years before creating Pheasant Farm Antiques with Margaret in Greene, NY which they operated for 22 years before retiring. Nels was a lifelong avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and music enthusiast with a great singing voice. Nels and Margaret were well known as the first couple out on the dance floor to show the kids how it's done. Nels enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family on camping trips, outdoorsy vacations, and backyard barbeques. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Chenango Valley Cemetery, 120 Nowlan Rd, Binghamton, NY 13901. Friends of the family may call from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St, Greene, NY 13778.
