            Myrtle Jean Tomal of Greene, NY died on June 22, 2018 at the United Home in Johnson City, NY.  My mother was born on December 17, 1927 to William & Hazel Excell.  My mother retired from the Chenango County, Dept. of Support/Collections in 1990.  After her retirement she volunteered at the NY State Veteran’s Home in Oxford, NY.  In 1994 she was recognized by the Chenango County United Way for her volunteering work in health care at the Vet’s Home. Mom was a devoted knitter and made approximately 2,500 baby hats for the premature infants at St. Joseph’s Health in Syracuse.  She also made her delicious chocolate chip cookies for the volunteers at the Hospital. My parents loved their bus trips to various points of interest - - their favorite being Branson, Missouri.  The County Music Park in Cortland, NY is where they showed off their dancing skills.  Mom and dad enjoyed her years camping in Sylvan Beach as members of the Sidney Boat Club. Mother is predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Gerald, Donald, and Paul Excell.  Surviving is her husband, Andy and her daughter Kathy (Donald) Mueller of Syracuse, her sister Ruth Sheldon of McDonough, and her brother David (Linda) Excell of Chenango Forks. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Friends of the family may call at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778  on Monday,  June 25, 2018 from 10 am to noon followed by the service.  Burial will follow at the Sylvan Lawn Cemetery in Greene. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ellen Needham Pediatric Fund, C/O Auxiliary of St. Joseph’s Health, 301 Prospect Avenue, Syracuse, New York  13203.
