Michael J. Shaffer, 49, of Greene, a loving husband, father, and brother passed away on June 21, 2023, after a long battle with a chronic illness. Mike is survived by his adoring wife of 29 years, Nicole Shaffer; daughter, Pamela Shaffer; son, Nathan Shaffer. Mike was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends. He looked forward to the Eastern Traditional Archery Rendezvous each year. Mike was mild-mannered but had a wonderful knack for making people laugh. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force for 10 years as a C130 crew chief.
He was predeceased by his mother, Cindy Shaffer. He is also survived by his father; John Shaffer (Bonnie Reynolds); brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Carin Shaffer; niece, Marlee Shaffer; nephew, Ian Shaffer; mother-in-law her significant other and his daughter; Lorraine Lonzinski, Kurt Heisler and Makayla Heisler; father-in-law and spouse, Richard (Steven) and Debbie Childress; niece, Cheyenne brother-in-law, Steve (Amanda) Childress and nephew, Oliver Childress. Along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and wonderful friends. He will be dearly missed by everyone.
Friends of the family may call from 3:00pm to 5:00pm Friday, June 30 at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St, Greene, NY 13778. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, www.redcross.org/donate.
