Mary Amell Obituary

Mary E. Amell, 91 of Greene, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville. She was born in Saranac Lake daughter of the late Fred and Catherine Gorrow. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Clifford in 2002; sons, Steven in 2012 and David in 1992, and son-in-law, James Heiser in 2021. She is survived by her children, Catherine Heiser of Middleburgh, Susan and Richard Davis of Grapevine, Texas, Nancy Amell of Greene, Fred and Nancy Amell of Spencerport and Jim and Barbara Amell of Greene; sister, Lillian Burman of Saranac Lake;  brother-in-law, Russ Newell of Syracuse and sister-in-law, Juanita Gorrow of Beverly Hills, Florida; grandchildren, George Byrnes, Tim Davis, John Heiser, Eric Amell, Jennifer Davis, Michael Davis, Jason Amell, Jeffrey Amell, Brian Amell, Scott Heiser, Becky Mascioletti, Donald Amell and Julia Amell; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mary was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Greene. She took great pride in her careers as a teaching assistant at the State University of New York at Cobleskill Food Services Administration program while living in Richmondville, New York and Chef for Baron’s Inn in Greene for many years. After retiring, she also helped provide Friday meals at the Congregational Church soup kitchen for several years. She loved reading, cooking, knitting, crocheting and gardening. She will always be remembered for the love and generosity she shared with her family. The family would like to thank the Crouse Community Center staff for their exceptional care and concern. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 2:00pm Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Church, 1180 NY Route 206, Greene, New York 13778. Burial will follow at Sylvan Lawn Cemetery. Friends of the family may call Friday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango Street, Greene, New York 13778. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Immaculate Conception Church of Greene and condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
