Leona Fendryk, 93, of Greene was born to the late Verna and Frank Wills in Hazleton, Pennsylvania on February 26, 1928 and left peacefully to live with the Lord on November 13, 2021 with her family by her side. She was also predeceased by her brother, Frank Wills (Jean); sister, Dorothy Schulak (Bernie) and the love of her life, Stanley T. Fendryk. Surviving to cherish her memory are her two children, Carol Melchior (Dana) and Stanley Fendryk (Betty); grandchildren, Stanley Fendryk, Sherwood Fendryk (Erika), Jesse Fendryk (Sarah), Dana Melchior and Rosemary Melchior and great grandchildren, Evelyn, Alaina, Jaxon, Lydia, Kinsley, Josephine and Abigail Fendryk. She was an excellent roller skater, but literally knocked Stanley off his feet at first meeting in the roller rink. They continued a happy life together for 33 years. They came to Greene and became active members of a great community and parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church. Leona worked as bookkeeper at Thomson`s Home Furnishing for many years balancing the books to the penny. She was a natural people person and also worked at Folsom`s Luncheonette, Pennegroth`s Gifts, and finally Stan`s Place. Leona was an exceptional homemaker, cook and mother. She enjoyed reading and artistic talents. Anyone who knows Leona has met the nicest woman in the world. Her kindness and compassion for all was unmatched. Her stories were witty and she loved to laugh. She enjoyed her friends, and caring for her family. To her husband Stan she was “the rose among the thorns” and to the rest of us she was just love personified. Private services are under the direction of Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango Street, Greene, New York 13778 and condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
