Leon “Lee” Yager, 66 of Greene passed away at home on May 23rd 2021 after a 4-year battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by parents, Robert and Corinne Yager and mother-in-law, Beatrice Matera. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cynthia (Cyndie Matera)Yager who he met while working at the Grand Union; son, Joseph Yager; daughter, Annie Bensley (Michael); cousins, Glen Yager and Barb Morgan, Roy and Sonya Yager, father-in-law, Joseph Matera; 2 sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Terri and Chris Williams, Mary Matera and friends too numerous to name. He worked for 30 years at IBM and was owner of Lee’s Painting, Etc. for 20 years. Lee was an avid hunter and fisherman—A true outdoorsman. His favorite times were in the woods or on the water. He was a hard worker, loving husband and proud father. Lee was looking forward to being a first time grandfather. In his later years he became mostly known as “that guy who mows the lawn everyday.” He had many special friends throughout the years, in the good times and bad. If you were Lee’s friend, you knew it! In his final days, he was supported by childhood friend Dianne Dirlam and cousins, Glen and Barb. His family could not have managed without their selfless assistance.
