John J. Sexton III

John (“Jack”) Sexton III of Greene

John (“Jack”) Joseph Sexton III passed away peacefully at age 85 on August 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Wharton, New Jersey on February 4, 1940, where he grew up, serving as an Altar Boy from a young age at St. Mary’s Church.    

He is survived by his beloved partner, Pat Clements and his children, Toni Sexton Pritchard, Roseanne Marie DiRenzo, Lisa Sexton Kwan, Christopher James Sexton, Eric Sexton, Mark DeeLeuw, Shane Sexton, and Matthew Sexton,  He was predeceased by his children, John Benjamin Sexton and Catherine Marie Sexton and by his two brothers, Gary Sexton and Richard Sexton.  He was the proud grandfather of 15 and grand-grandfather of six. 

Jack had an entrepreneurial spirit.  When he was 17, he built his first home, and later founded Waterloo Builders, building homes for many years in northern New Jersey.  His many passions included racing stock cars, raising horses, deep sea fishing, piloting his Cessna around the northeast, and eventually becoming a dairy farmer and raising cattle in Greene, New York.  He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Budd Lake, New Jersey, and was recently recognized for his fifty years of service.  Jack will be remembered for his bold spirit, generous heart, sharp wit, and the stories he shared with those around him.  He leaves behind a legacy of strength, adventure, and love.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on August 8, 2025, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene, New York. A funeral service will follow 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
