John Frank Maynard Jr (Sonny), (Poppy), 92, of Earlton, New York, went to his heavenly home on June 27, 2023. He was born October 17, 1930 John Frank Maynard Sr. and Mildred Maynard in Albany, New York. John loved his family, and was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. John was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Patsy; parents, Mildred and John Frank Maynard Sr.; brother, Thomas Maynard and sister, Gloria Maynard. John was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Zacchio (Guy) of Freehold, and survived by one daughter, Barbara Hogan (Joe), Greene, NY. John or Poppy, as all the grandchildren and great grandchildren called him, leaves behind 7 grandchildren, which he loved with all his heart Brandi Keathly, Cortland, IL; Kelsey Keathly, Cortland, IL; Jenna Kiser (Thomas), Manhattan, KS; Austin Zacchio (Lisa), Ballston Spa; Gaetano Zacchio (Heather), Medusa; Natasha Zacchio, Freehold; Nicole Zacchio, Coxsackie. Poppy is also survived by 8 great grandchildren who he cherished very much: Domenic Zacchio, Giovanni Zacchio, Roma Zacchio, Luciano Zacchio, Ryland Zacchio, Dylan Zacchio, Kayden Zacchio, and Kailee Keathly-Drake. John graduated from Roessleville High School in Albany, NY in 1949. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951 to serve his country in the Korean War proudly and earned an honorable discharge in 1954. John loved to fly and had his private pilots license and enjoyed flying around the southern tier in New York in his younger days. He was a volunteer fireman for the Vischer Ferry Fire Department, when living in that area. John had a long, rewarding career doing what he loved, working as a truck driver and hauling new cars to car dealerships throughout the northeast until retiring in 1989. John then began his adventures of traveling. He then met his wife Patsy, and they traveled from NY to Florida every year, living in NY half the year and Dunnellon, Florida the other half of the year. They enjoyed adventures that brought them to every one of the United States in their RV. John and Patsy also enjoyed numerous cruises, and also traveled to several other countries throughout Europe, China and many tropical areas as well. His favorite place to visit was Australia and New Zealand. John lived a very full life and appreciated everything he was able to do and see. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and would cheer them on from the sidelines. He would travel to their games and would also travel to see his granddaughter’s horse shows. John valued his many friendships and loved to visit friends both old and new. John and Patsy knew when each local town was having music concerts in the evenings and would meet friends there each week and many evenings enjoying the fellowship there. John attended Grapeville Baptist Church when in NY and enjoyed the many good friendships he had made over the years. John, Dad, Poppy, will leave a hole in each of our hearts and we will treasure every memory we had with him. We know he is with his beloved Patsy and Tammy now enjoying heaven together. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 9:30 am at Grapeville Baptist Church, 2416 county Route 26, Climax, NY, then interment of ashes will be at 1pm at Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet Shaker Road, Albany, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Grapeville Baptist Church, at 2416 County Route 26, Climax, NY, 12042.
