John Bickford Obituary

John R. Bickford went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

John loved his family and the many friends he considered family. He had a big heart and a deep love for life. John often said he didn’t want anyone to cry for him, because it isn’t goodbye—it’s simply “see you later.”

He was predeceased by Robert Moorhead Sr, Mildred Moorhead, John Palmer Sr., Minnie Palmer, John Palmer Jr., Marion Hispanski, Richard Moorhead, Walter Anderson, Michael Beckwith, Joyce Moorhead and Zack Poland.

John is survived by his two children, Sharon-Faith Bickford and Gavin-Thomas Bickford; the mother of his children and dear friend, Amy Pratt; and his parents, Sharon and Tim Bickford. He also leaves behind many family members and friends who meant the world to him, including Mindi and William Lafey, Terri and Andy Beebe, Kaitlin Beebe, Austin Stark, Jordan Beebe, Raelynn Stark, Kandy Van Wagner, Dorothy and Timothy Holt, Scott Drake, Scott Bates, Travis Ray, Amanda Perry, Ashley Hodge, Bill Palmer, William Palmer, Richard Sullivan, Andrea Golden, Ryan Yaletchko, Brittany Holt, Victoria Burdick, and Zane Holt, as well as his beloved dog, Chronic.

John loved baseball and wanted to be remembered for playing softball. He was an amazing ball player and enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing. He also loved riding his motorcycle and being outdoors.

Throughout his life, John endured many hospital stays, some very lengthy, yet he always remained grateful for those who cared for him. He held a special place in his heart for the nurses on Main Tower 5 and his healthcare providers. One of the simple joys he shared with others was coloring pictures for friends, family, and staff.

John was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in late 2022. Despite many health challenges, he fought courageously and remained optimistic, stubborn, and brave through it all.

John will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his strength, kindness, humor, and the love he shared with everyone around him. Celebration of life for John is May 2, 2026 4:00pm-8:00pm at the Greene Lions Park in Greene NY 13778. Please no donations or gifts.
