Obituary

Joan Cox VanSlooten, 85, of Greene, passed away at her home on March 31, 2023, and left her earthly body to go on to her next life. She was predeceased by her husband, David VanSlooten Jr.; mother, Edith Doane; father, Charles V. Cox and sister, Janet Dean. She leaves behind three children, Debbie, James, and Christopher; as well as a half-sister, 5 half-brothers, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Joan was raised in Hancock by guardians Roscoe Christian and his sister, Ina Christian. She graduated Hancock Central School in 1954 and then worked for the Binghamton Sun Bulletin for several years. In 1958, she married David and started a family. She worked as a Billing Specialist for Mutual Health Agency for over 20 years, referring to it as "the best job ever". Joan was very proud of her children and her home. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, touring the 5 great national parks, music and line dancing. Joan was also an adoring fan of Elvis Presley. She will be missed and remembered by many people in the Greene-Binghamton area. She was a beautiful spirit.  At her request, no public services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Root Funeral Home, 23 N.
