Joan R. Rifanburg

Joan Ruth (Weir) Rifanburg of Greene was born on May 23, 1946 and died on May 14, 2022.  
 She was born youngest daughter of Howard and Murtie Weir of Brisben and Greene; youngest sister to, Bob, Frank, Ann, Ester and Jim. She was mother of Shane, the first and wisest, Eric, the middle and responsible one and the youngest, Dean a child of the forest and the tides.
 Joan grew up in the quiet streets of Brisben with her 5 siblings running in the meadows and catching lightning bugs. She laughed around the dinner table with her large family she cherished. She graduated from Greene Central High School Class of 1964  where she was a member of the marching band and trumpet player. She enjoyed attending class reunions and catching up with classmates.  After high school, she moved to Washington DC and worked for the United States Government, possibly as a secret agent, she never did say! Joan returned to NY and married Les Rifanburg of Norwich and they started their family in Brisben. Yet love is also like the ocean with its ebbs and flows and they found themselves parting ways. Joan started a new career working at the Raymond Corporation in Greene. She enjoyed working there and enjoyed her coworkers for over 30 years. She even had her own parking space.  She saw a lot of change and would often say how fast the technology was going. She earned her Associates Degree in Business from BCC and her Bachelors in Business from Empire State College. She was in the high honors society of both schools. Both degrees helped her stay with the times. Joan spent all of her free time raising 3 boys, which was the equivalent of being Mary Poppins and Judge Judy. She adored all her nieces and nephews and loved to hear about their lives as they grew. She loved to paint and watch movies with her sons and read murder mysteries just in case she was needed to solve some crime in Cabot Cove. She was truly a gentle soul who will be missed by so many. Friends of the family may call at Root Funeral Home 23 North Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778 on Saturday, June 11th from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. The funeral will be held at 2:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Greene Historical Society
