James Vanderweyde

James Vanderweyde of Smithville  passed away suddenly on August 4, 2018.  He is pre-deceased by his parents, Job Vanderweyde and Jacoba Vanderweyde.  He is survivied by his wife Elizabeth, 4 children: James (Jennifer), Joyce (Chris), Justin, Tara (Michael) and 9 grandchildren.  Jim will also be remembered by his extended family in the Netherlands, Curacao and Australia along with several lifelong friends.
He was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands and emigrated to the United States in 1957 where he completed his schooling in the East Meadow School District.  He continued on to college and then the Air Force.  He served our country from 1963 - 1967 in Germany and Vietnam during times of conflict.  He spent his working career with Verizon.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, flying and working on his UltraLight plane, card games at Turning Stone Casino and target shooting with his grandchildren. 
A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM Thursday, August 9th, 2018 at Sylvan Lawn Cemetery in Greene with Military Honors.  Arrangements are under direction of Root Funeral Home, 23 N.
