James “Jim” McMahon, 79, of Greene died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on November 8, 2021. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Jack and Elizabeth “Lizzie” McMahon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sally and Cyril Bullett; sister, Karen McMahon; brother-in-law, Al Rose and brother-in-law, Don Cobb. Jim is survived by his wife, Gail; children, Thomas McMahon (wife, Michelle and son, Michael James), Michael McMahon (wife, Natalie and children, Gavin and Eloise), Heather Rice (husband, Chris and children, Madison, Emma, and Jack), and Megan Zvonkovich (husband, Eric and daughter, Sydney); sister, Maureen Rose; brother and sister-in-law, Audrey and John Knapp; sister-in-law, Yvonne Cobb and many nieces and nephews. Jim was born July 1, 1942 and raised in Binghamton where he graduated from St. Pat’s High School in 1960. After high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Army and served two years. Jim returned home after his service and started his career at the Raymond Corporation where he met his wife of 52 years, Gail. Jim enjoyed a 32 year career at Raymond where he met many lifelong friends. After Raymond, Jim started a promotional business called McMahon Associates that he ran for several years. Jim was a dedicated husband and father. He coached many sports, and was part of multiple organizations in Greene, including the Town Planning Board and Greene Emergency Squad. He volunteered for many years at the B.C. Open and Dick’s Open. Jim was an avid golfer and huge sports fan, especially of Greene High School sports. Jim will always be remembered as being “one of a kind”, positive, honest, and a man who enjoyed life with a smile on his face. A special thank you to the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford, New York and to Hospice of Chenango County for their care and love. Additionally, thank you to his home health care aide, Cassie Wilber and hospice nurse, Jennie. A funeral mass will be held 10:00AM Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church, 1180 New York Route 206 in Greene, New York 13778. Friends of the family may call Thursday 4:00 - 7:00pm at Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango Street, Greene, New York 13778. Masks are required.
