James A. Martin went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 27th, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Clarinda Martin; brother, Leonard Martin; and an infant sister; Yvone Martin. James is survived by his wife, F. Lois Martin of 42 years; brother, Robert Martin; sister, Marlene Burt. Surviving also are his daughter, Brenda Reid (Rod); two sons, Michael Martin (Lisa) and Randy Martin (Barb); 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. James was born on November 10, 1937, in Cortland, NY. He graduated Cortland high school in 1957. He was employed by, Grand Union, Montgomery Wards, and Boscov’s. He retired from Boscov’s in 1999. James was also in the army reserves for 8 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Port Crane, for many years where he served as an usher. He always looked forward to Thursday Bible study with many of his church friends. He was there for the fellowship as well as the delicious food. James was a loving husband, father, brother, grandpa and friend. James wanted it to be known that he fulfilled his bucket list. He visited 18 National Parks and walked them all. He even walked The Grand Canyon and went to Branson, MI two times as well. He enjoyed hunting, walking and hiking in state parks for many years. He enjoyed going to fairs and festivals with his wife. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008 and went through cancer treatments and beat his cancer. He had been a diabetic since his early 50s and had done well until his late 80s when he was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease. He had a strong will and did things the way he wanted. Jim’s family and friends were very important to him and he cherished the times that he spent with them. He enjoyed his weekly poker games with his sons. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and by all who have had the pleasure of knowing him. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Monday June 1 at the First Baptist Church, 38 Canal Street, Port Crane, NY 13833. Friends of the family may call from 10:00am until the time of service at the Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Root Funeral Home, 23 N.
