Jack R. Rounds, 88 of Greene, passed away peacefully at Wilson Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family on Monday, December 15, 2025. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, and is survived by his brother Gerhard in Germany; 6 children, Laurie and Tom Fey of Greene, Brigadier General (Retired) Michael and Julie Rounds of Shawnee, KS, Patricia Sage-McLean, Anne and Jay Gage, Daniel and Juli Rounds and Ashley Rounds, all of Greene; grandchildren, Nicole, Ross-Michael, Kristine, Kaitlin, Alex, Bridget, Lindsey and Kyle. Jack was extremely proud to have served his country enlisting in the Army in 1955 and initially assigned to the prestigious 82d Airborne Division. While at Ft Bragg he was one of the initial group of soldiers selected to establish our modern special forces organization. Prior to ending his service he served in the Berlin Brigade guarding war criminals at Spandau Prison. After completing his service Jack worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator helping to construct many of the major highways serving the southern tier of NY. He also drove a truck in partnership with Daniel for Maines Trucking for several years and loved being on the road with his son. In retirement, Jack continued to work mowing fairways at Gengantslet Golf Course as a labor of love. Jack was deeply committed to his family and was always available to support both his children and grandchildren work through our many life challenges. At the same time he partnered with Lois to help her with over 400 foster children they took into their home over their lifetime. In many instances these children, many with special needs, did not have any advocates other than our parents. Together they provided a foundation for a successful life for these children that would not have otherwise been possible. Jack always had a zest for life and enjoyed spending time with his friends in a wide variety of pursuits including fly fishing, hunting and golfing. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor but most importantly, his willingness to lend a hand to those in need. Jack will be missed but he will always be in our hearts as we reflect on the many lives he influenced and improved in partnership with Lois and the many great adventures that he had with his family. A private graveside service will be held in the Spring. Arrangements are by Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St, Greene, NY 13778 and condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
