George Edwards III Obituary

George Thomas Edwards III, born October 29, 1951 passed away on May 22, 2021 after a long and heroic battle with brain cancer. He is predeceased by first wife, Laura Edwards; devoted and loving parents, Katherine and George T. Edwards JR; cousins, David Vossbrinck and Karen Mayer. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Suzanne Rugar Edwards, sister, Georgia-Ann (Denny Means) Edwards; sons, Jordon (Jackie) Sutherlin, JD Edwards; daughter, Felicia (Eric) Gilfus; grandchildren, Amelia and Camden Gilfus; nephews, John Paul (Stephanie) Harwick and Christopher J. (Megan) Harwick as well as their children. George’s indomitable spirt and personality touched many he joyfully called friends in Sidney, Greene, Courtland, Ocean Isle Beach and the world. George ran successful businesses in New York State. He started his career in Banking. In Sidney, George and his first wife, Laura operated Kidz Kollege. He also ran a moving and storage company in Binghamton and later a real estate management company. He served on the Greene Town Planning Board for 17 years. George was a member of the First Congregational Church in Greene. He loved his dogs, including his great pal Ace in Ocean Isle Beach. George was a wonderful father, son and brother. George was an avid sportsman enjoying bicycling, motorcycling, rip-sticking, hiking, skiing, kayaking, mountain climbing, and was a master campfire builder. He loved to host campfires surrounded by friends and family where great conversation was highlighted by his laughter and great spirit. George was especially fond of pancakes with real maple syrup and peanut butter. He loved life and was a generous and kind person. The family thanks the Brain Cancer Oncology Departments of Duke University and Syracuse University for their valiant efforts. Private services are under direction of Root Funeral Home 23 North Chenango Street, Greene, New York 13778. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Greene Emergency Squad, 30 Birdsall Street, Greene, New York 13778 and condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
