Edwin Sloan Obituary

Edwin H. Sloan, 74, of Greene passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Christine Sloan, Father and Mother in law, Walter and Vivian Cairns and brothers in law, Bryce and Bill Cairns. Ed is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy (Cairns) Sloan; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Peter Nisbet; grandchildren, Lauren and Zachary and step grandsons Austin, Arik (James), Dylan (Alecia) and Fletcher, sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Frank Shefl and several nieces and nephews. He retired from Raymond Corporation after 41 years of service. Upon retirement from Raymond he was employed as grounds keeper at the Greene Ball Flats for 5 years.  Ed served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Army as an MP and convoy driver.  He was a 40 year member of Greene Fire Department where he served as Past Chief and Assistant Chief ranks. He also served in the Fire Police. Ed enjoyed wood working, being Poppy and spending time with Chloe, the family dog. Friends of the family may call Thursday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Root Funeral Home 23 N, Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778. Greene Fire Department will conduct a service Thursday at 7:00pm. His funeral service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greene Fire Department in his honor.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
