Edith M. Shafer

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edith Mae (Samson) Shafer, known to her friends as “Edie” on February 11, 2020, at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her parents, Esther and Fred Samson; brothers, Jim, Joe, and Richard and sisters, Gertrude Lupole and Beulah Williams. Edie lived a full life with her family and serving God.  She will be remembered by her husband of 63 years, Donald F. Shafer; children, Sharon (Roman) Filip, Don (Deb) Shafer, Dolores (Dave) Poole, Priscilla (Shawn) VanderBunt, Sheila (Natalio Chediak) Shafer and Judy (Rich) Lance; 13 grandchildren;14 great grandchildren and by many friends and family. Edie graduated from Whitney Point Central School and Practical Bible School.  She taught for many years in the Schoharie school districts. She met Donald and settled in Greene, NY, where she raised her family and lived her remaining years.  She was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Greene Historical Society and Triangle Quilting Guild.  Edie had many hobbies; her greatest passion was genealogy and she enjoyed her garden of raspberries and garlic.  For years she sold garlic, which offered an opportunity to meet new people.  Edie loved preventative medicine, if you had an aliment she had recipe for a cure. Edie loved to talk about what she was reading and learning and most of all about God and what he could do in your life.  Everyone she touched will miss her!! A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM Saturday,  February 29 at Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778. Friends of the family may call from 1:00PM until time of service.
