Doris Neureither, 96, of Greene, NY passed away on September 12, 2023 at Wilson Hospital. She was born on December 4, 1926, the daughter of Otto and Ilse Kiessling. She grew up in Woodhaven, NY and graduated from NYC public schools. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George, of 55 years and her dear friend, Emma-Jane Yengel. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Herrick (Steven) of Greene, NY; son, Ken Neureither of Greene, NY; grandson, Matthew Herrick of Henniker, NH (Dagmar); granddaughter, Diana Meyer of St. Pete, FL; great grandchildren, Elise and Daniel Herrick and Reid Meyer. Also extended family, Virginia and Herbert Yengel of Valley Stream, LI. Doris was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Woodhaven, NY and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Valley Stream, LI. At the age of 10, she and her life-long friend of 85 years, Emma-Jane, joined the Girl Scout troop at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Woodhaven. She remained affiliated with scouting when she moved to Valley Stream where she became the scout leader of Troop #281 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed helping the girls earn their badges, taking them camping, and doing so many fun activities. She loved cruising and often took family members along on trips to the Caribbean, Alaska, and Europe. She was employed by Aetna Life & Casualty Co., Garden City, NY. In 1991 she moved to Greene, NY to be near her children. Family was most important. A quote from her granddaughter: “Grams was one of the most dynamic I have known. She was tenacious and stood up for her family whom she cared for first and foremost.” A funeral service will be held 12:00pm Monday, September 18 at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St, Greene, NY 13778. Friends of the family may call from 11:00am until the time of service at Root Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Vestal Hills Memorial Park immediately following the service.
