Denise Carney

Denise R. Carney, 69, of Chenango Forks passed away on March 21, 2022. She was predeceased by her close family friends, Ray and Sonja Davies. She is survived by her husband, Bill Carney; daughters, Molly and Clare; 2 sisters, Karen Angeli and Alyce Clark and goddaughter, Ruthie Metz. Denise was born in Kew Gardens, NY, to Ruth and George Lehmann. As an avid lifelong reader, she always enjoyed a book in the nearby orchards when taking a break from her full household of loving sisters and cousins. She met her partner of 50 years at St. Thomas Aquinas College where she began her teaching career. Denise went on to teach at numerous schools throughout New York, working most recently at Chenango Valley Middle School. Denise and Bill moved to Chenango Forks in 1985 where they raised their two daughters. The family enjoyed camping trips throughout the country, visits to Mickey Mouse in Disney World, and spending time in Cooperstown, NY. Summers spent with family and friends at Otsego Lake will forever be treasured memories. Denise loved sewing, crocheting, and quilting, and made the best Halloween costumes for her daughters. All who loved her knew of her passion for flamingo-themed tchotchkes, antique collections, and raising houseplants before it was cool. She was endlessly proud of her daughters, having devoted much of her life to raising them with her shared for life, reading, and gardening. Friends of the family may call from 2:00 to 3:00pm Saturday, March 26 at Root Funeral Home, 23 N.
