Clayton E. Williams, MGT, USAF retired, 97, of Chenango Forks passed away on September 22, 2022. He was predeceased by wife, Elsie and brother, Donald. He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Shoemaker; several cousins and many nieces and nephews. Clayton served as a Flight Engineer and Alternate Co-Pilot on B24 Liberator bombers with the 43rd Bomb Group, Pacific during WWII. At the end of WWII, he was re-assigned to the 433rd Troup Carrier SQ stationed at Tachikawa, Japan as a Flight Engineer on C-46 aircraft, flying cargo all over the Pacific area. His military service included both WWII and Korea Wars. He finally retired from the USAF on April 1, 1967. Clayton also held a private pilots license and had flown most prop type aircraft. He enjoyed flying, but also enjoyed being a part time cowboy on their ranch in Kansas. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and his favorite sport was bowling. A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Monday, September 26 at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778. Friends of the family may call from 1:00pm until the time of service at Root Funeral Home. A committal service with military honors will follow in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy House, 212 McKinley Ave, Endicott, NY 13760.
