Carlton (Carl) J. Hughes, 87, of Greene and formerly Grafton VT, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020. Carlton (Carl) J. Hughes, 87, of Greene and formerly Grafton VT, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020. Carl was predeceased by his son, David Hughes who passed away in 1979.  Carl is survived by his wife of 67 years, Linda; his children, Dwight Hughes, Sherry Hughes Guiles (Neil); grandsons, Justin Guiles, Garrett Guiles (Elizabeth) and granddaughter, Magnolia. Carl graduated from Nottingham High School where he met his wife Linda. Carl enlisted in the US Air Force served his country during the Korean Conflict.  He then returned to Syracuse and married his high school sweetheart, Linda. In 1964, Carl & Linda moved from Cazenovia, to Greene where they purchased “Windswept”.  Carl was an active Lion’s Club Member often giving flights during the father’s day fly in breakfasts. Carl worked in the construction equipment industry throughout his career. He was respected for his dedication to his employees & customers.  Upon their retirement in NY, Carl & Linda moved to their very special “Four Chimneys”, Grafton VT.  They spent the last 27 years enjoying their horses, gardens & the beauty of Grafton VT.  They were active in the community continuing their real estate passion. He shared his love of flying, skiing, horses and carriage driving with all. The family thanks the Grafton Emergency/Fire Departments, many neighbors and staff at Brookdale for their care and attention these past several years.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grafton Cares PO Box 134, Grafton, VT 05146.
