Barry E. Stephens, 65, of Greene went home to be with his Lord on March 22, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents, Edmund Stephens and Ruth Idell. Barry is survived by his beloved fiancé, Ann Marie Kellogg; son, Jim Stephens and his wife Brittany; daughter, Kimberly Youngblood and her husband Chad; sister, Gayle Simon and her husband Kent and brother, Rick Stephens and his wife Kathy. Barry had four grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Eastlyn, Levi, Wyatt, and Lucas. He also had several nieces, nephews, and great nephews that held a special place in his heart. Barry served four years in the US Army, leaving with the rank of Sergeant. He was the former owner of Tri-County Collision in Greene, NY prior to his retirement in 2020. He also owned two other body shops; Midnight Auto in Franklin, NJ and B&B Collision in East Pharsalia, NY. Barry was an avid car and motorcycle collector and an accomplished drag racer, with his most recent pursuit in racing being a 1960 Ford Falcon drag racer that he loved to race at South Butler Nostalgia Dragway. He was an active member of the Berean Bible Church, and traveled to Mexico and Haiti on mission trips. Barry loved camping and boating at the St. Lawrence River with his family and friends. He had a large presence in his community and was well known for his kindness, generosity, and as a mentor to many. He was instrumental in organizing an annual charitable benefit to directly benefit seriously ill members of the community. Barry leaves behind a legacy including a close-knit family and a large circle of friends that he loved spending time with. He will live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones. We would like to thank the staff and especially the nurses at Binghamton General Hospital for their exceptional care for Barry during his stay there. Their compassion and attention meant a great deal to him and our family. We would also like to give a special thanks to Sarah Richeda, FNP, Dr. Alan DeMaine, and Stacie Hansen, RN. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 2 at the Berean Bible Church, 109 County Rd 2, Greene, NY 13778. Friends of the family may call from 10:00 - 12:00, with the service to follow directly after. Since Barry was so passionate about helping people in need, especially children, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (stjude.org) or Mercy Ships (mercy ships.org). Arrangements are under direction of Root Funeral Home, 23 N. North Chenango St, Greene, NY 13778 and condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
