Richard "Dick" Armstrong Obituary

Richard “Dick” Armstrong Chenango Forks- Richard “Dick” Armstrong, 90, of Chenango Forks, passed away on Tuesday , November 13, 2018 in Johnson City after a short illness. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 65 years and best friend, Joan; his brother, Bill Armstrong; his three sons, Rick (wife, Karen), Dan (girlfriend, Chris) and Tom (wife, Andrea) as well as a daughter Pat; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by parents, Joseph and Mary Armstrong and brother Joe. He was devoted to his wife, family, St. Rita’s Church in Chenango Forks, Chenango Forks Volunteer Fire Department and math tutoring to young folks. His career included years with the Broome County Department of Public Works and as a land surveyor. He loved to travel, 2 tours in the US Navy provided him, as he called it, “two cruises around the world”. He was a friend to everyone whether he knew them or not. He was always ready with a joke. He loved spending summers at the cottage he built in the Adirondacks, spending Easters and winters in Myrtle Beach and walking with Joan at Chenango Valley State Park or the beach at sunrise. He could never pass up a sharks tooth or good looking stone. He also had a large collection of old cameras. Later in life he took up painting. A funeral mass will be offered 10:00am Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Parish 1049 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY 13901. Calling hours will be held 8:30am until the time of service at the church. He was a kind, wonderful man and will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to the Chenango Forks Volunteer Fire Department 2640 NYS Route 12, Chenango Forks , NY 13746.
