Ray “Skip” W. Stanton, 85, of Greene, went to be with the Lord on April 20 in Fairport New York. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Ray and Josephine Stanton. Skip is survived by his wife, Roberta Stanton; children, Daniel (Joan) Stanton, Virginia, Michael (Rebecca) Stanton, Walworth, Patrick (Terrea) Stanton, Ohio, Julie (Michael) Rinella, Marion; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol and John Crossley, Port Crane and many nieces, cousins and special friends. Ray helped found Boy Scout Troops in Greene, Coventry, Brisben and Smithville Flats. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War from 1952-54 and was the longest member and chaplain of the Greene American Legion. He was a co-founder of the Greene Band Boosters and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Skip retired from IBM in 1991 after 36 years of service. He also was Justice of the Peace in Greene. Ray and Roberta would always go for walks and hold hands wherever they went. The family appreciates the Greene community for all they have done for Ray. The family will receive friends on Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 1180 State Highway 206, Greene New York 13778. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to either the Greene American Legion, 1959 State Highway 206, Greene New York 13778, the Greene Emergency Squad, 30 Birdsall Street, Greene New York 13778, or the Greene Fire Department, 8 North Canal Street, Greene New York 13862.
