John Henry (Jack) Buchanan, 89, of Greene, NY formerly of Gloversville, NY went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, August 21st, 2018 at the home of his daughter. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Beverly Belle (Wands) Buchanan. He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Buchanan Marshall of Perth as well as his three children and their spouses: Bryan and Marie, Michal Ann (Challee) and Samuel Westover, Brent and Mary; and 14 grandchildren: Michael and Pamela; Nathanael, Sharayah (fiancé Jacob), Zachariah, Paul and Kari, Lee, Ezekiel, Naomi, Peter and Brianna, Kelly, Olivia, Josiah, great-grandchildren Hudson, Cameron, Theodore, Aubriella, and Eva Ruth; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack was a co-owner of Eastland Dairy where he and his wife ran the farm, its milk processing plant, and home delivery milk routes. Jack saw the farm as an opportunity to help people as much as it was a place to work hard and raise a family; and he excelled at all these. Jack was employed by the USDA as the County Executive Director of what was formerly called the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in Johnstown, and he spent several decades befriending and helping local farmers in that capacity. A man of great faith, Jack served in many roles in their local church (Mayfield Center Community), including Elder, song leader, lay speaker, lawn mower, snow shoveler, and all-around helper. Jack was active in the Rotary International, Salvation Army, Farm Bureau, and Gideons for many years. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 1st, 2018 at the Mayfield Center Community Church. Rev. Peter Marshall, Jack’s Nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in Perth Center Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in Gloversville, NY. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
