Gertrude A. Lerwick

Gertrude A. Lerwick, 96, of Coventry , beloved wife, mother, aunt and “Mima” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; son, Bill Jr.; siblings and parents. Gert is survived her 2 daughters, Carol and Karen; grandchildren, Danielle, Andrea and Olivia; 3 great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Grady and Jonathan; son-in-law Jim; brother Eugene; sister  Catherine; several nieces and nephews. Her home and her family were always the most important to her. She was the best cook and baker , always sharing what she made with family and friends. Special memories of Sunday dinners and holidays will be cherished forever. Having grown up on a farm her lifelong passion for gardening produced a multitude of vegetables, berries, grapes and garlic which she preserved every year. Paying attention to detail Gert did an excellent job cleaning up the Coventry Town Hall across from her home of nearly 60 plus years. Having a gift for giving sage advice, lending an ear and telling stories about her life was greatly appreciated by her family. Gert was proud of and so loved watching her grandchildren play sports and would travel to watch every game. Always kind and caring she will be deeply missed by her family. A special thank you to Vestal Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their great care of Gert; especially the staff of Brookside Terrace. A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Thursday at Root Funeral Home, 23 North Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778. Burial will be in Coventry Union Cemetery. Friends of the family may call Thursday from 10:00AM until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice and condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
