Fred Urda Obituary

Fred A. Urda, age 89, of Greene, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, died on Monday, July 9, 2018, after a brief illness. Fred was born on June 9, 1929 in Binghamton, NY, to Fedor and Mary Adamcik Urda.  He spent his childhood years in Windsor, NY, and graduated from Windsor High School in 1946.  In 1954 he moved to Smithville Flats, where he and his brother, David, operated a dairy farm for many years.  Fred became the Smithville Town Supervisor, and then went on to serve Chenango County as the County Clerk and head of motor vehicles for over 20 years.  He was named County Clerk of the Year in 1991 and was a past President of the County Clerk’s Association of NY. On October 19, 1957, he married the former Jean Roe, who predeceased him in December of 2017.  They had recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.  His son, Fred/Ted also predeceased him. Fred was also predeceased by his parents and his five siblings and their spouses.  Fred is survived by his children, Pam (Steve) Northrup of Greene, Rick (Kim) Urda of Ithaca, and daughter-in-law Anita Urda of Greene.  He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Amanda (Geoff) Wells, Andrea Northrup, Zachary Urda (Kristen), Daniel Urda, Jennifer Urda, and Charlie Urda, as well as two great-granddaughters, Norah and Ava Wells.    Fred is also survived by sisters- and brothers-in-law, Dianne Urda, Audrey Dunlap, Butch and Bonnie Roe, and Bonnie and Dick Stica, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Fred was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Greene, having been a Trustee of the parish for several years. Fred and Jean sold the farm and moved to Greene in 1985.  They spent their winters in Florida, where they enjoyed the activities and their friends in Colony Cove.  They loved to travel, and enjoyed many trips.  Fred liked to golf, and he was a very clever card player.  He and Jean were great polka dancers.  Fred was a faithful NY Yankees fan.  Fred loved working with wood and creating beautiful items.  The family has many pieces he built. The family would like to thank Tracie Puglisi, Debbie Borst and her staff at the Everling Home for Adults, and the staffs of Hilltop Nursing Home, Willow Point Nursing Home, and Wilson Hospital North Tower 3 for the care they gave Fred.  Fred’s family will receive friends on Friday, July 13 from 4-7 pm at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene NY 13778.  Funeral services will be held 10:30am on Saturday, July 14. 2018  at Immaculate Conception Church, 1180 State Hwy 206, Greene, with a luncheon to follow.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Immaculate Conception Church or the Genegantslet Fire Company or any charity of your choice.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
